About This Project

On The Table

Jesse Harris, Aisha Sasha John, Hazel Meyer, and Lido Pimienta

At participating bars and venues across Toronto as part of the
Toronto Design Offsite Festival – January 16-22, 2017

A politically engaged artist multiple that targets audiences in licensed establishments, inciting dialogue around issues related to gender-based violence and sexual harassment in public space. Original artworks by four Toronto artists are printed onto recyclable beverage coasters for wide distribution at select bars and restaurants across the city during the Toronto Design Offsite Festival. On The Table responds to the direct correlation between alcohol consumption and gender-based violence, and advocates for the health and safety of both patrons and staff in hospitality environments. Through visually compelling designs and charged messaging, the coasters bring attention to the issues in a nuanced way, promoting respectful, inclusive, and equitable spaces for all genders.

This project was produced with the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
